EERAM : A SUPERNATURAL THRILLER : Above Average

EERAM : A SUPERNATURAL THRILLER

Don't read the text inside the
&
tag if u don't want to know the suspense elements

Theatre : Thiyagaraja
Status : 75%
Showtime : 11.15am(FDFS)

After watching the first half, I was really in a confused state about how I can write the review of this movie without losing its suspense to the viewers. But the second half made me to write this in the way as follows.

Story begins in an apartment from which water comes out from E6 flat where no response was there even after calling many times by the security gaurd. Police found Ramya Balakrishnan(Sindhu Menon) dead in bathtub. One policeman asks Vasu(Aadhi) to come and confirm as the dead one is Ramya as he knows that they were in love few years ago. A suicide note was found in her body covered in a plastic cover saying like she herself is committing suicide. Vasu investigates the case and collects details from the near apartment people. All were saying like she was having relationship with some other guy and committed suicide when her husband discovered that. Vasu remembers his college days and his love life in between these. They didn't unite because her father didn't want a police officer(police officer in future) to marry her. Two more murders happens who were staying in that apartment. Vasu finds WATER as the source of medium used to kill in all the murders. Vasu starts investigation
Towards the interval, Police chases and finds the so said secret lover of Ramya there in Udhayam theatre. Aadhi reaches there and finds that guy hitting his head himself to the mirror in gent's toilet. Vasu realises then its none other than Ramya's ghost who uses water as a medium to kill. The la HOLLOW MAN effect used then was good. Second half is Vasu's meeting with a doctor who talks to ghosts. He asks Vasu to believe in ghosts. By the time Ramya's sister played by Saranya Mohan comes to city for her father's operation. Vasu shifts to the apartment where murders happened along with his mother. Saranya too comes there. Spirit of Ramya enters Saranya's body and tells him what happened in her life and what lead to her murder and why she had killed the other people too. From the first 30 minutes itself we are known to the original villain none other than her husband Balakrishnan played by Nandha because of his doubt on his wife. How she takes revenge is the rest of the story [end of spoiler]

Vasu played by Aadhi of Mrugam fame(Mrugam : the movie in which director Sami slapped Padmapriya) had played the role of a college guy and a police officer very well. If the physique of the police officer role was some more good, then it could have been much more tougher look. Nandha as Balakrishnan has nothing much to do as an irritating character which we have seen Raghuvaran as psychic in some movies. Saranya has nothing much to do, again a sister character and two scenes. And finally Ramya played by Sindhu Menon walks away with all applause. She was too good as a homely college girl, as a lover girl and as a loyal wife
, even as a ghost though she is not shown as such.
Among technical side, Art direction needs to be specially mentioned as it was superb in every frame(Don't know the name of the guy). Camera by Manoj Paramahamsa was superb. Also editing in first half, second half needs trimming and it needs to be as tight as first half. Music by Taran.S is good, especially "Mazhaye" song and the BGM which adds to the mood of the scene. The cloudy sky colour tone given to the whole movie is superb.

Director/Script Writer Arivazhagan was able to make the movie interesting in the first half as it was a package with murders, mystery, investigation, college life, love and even one song "Mazhaye.." which was picturised beautifully. Second Half was just average with no interesting twists, a predictable one only. WATER plays a key role in the movie as it is there in each and every scene in the movie. Director seems to have given much more importance to visuals than the screenplay. The storyline appears a cliched one.
A ghost who kills one by one those who were reason for her murder.
If director had done some more home work on the second half script it could have been an edge to seat thriller. Dialogues are good. Director Shankar should be appreciated again for presenting another promising director through his 'S' Pictures.

SUPERB FIRST HALF, AVERAGE SECOND HALF

Verdict : Above Average
Nagarathil irangiya vellathil mungiya, vellam use cheyyunna Aakashaganga
