DADDY COOL : Good Entertainer

DADDY COOL : GOOD ENTERTAINER

First of all I would like to thank all who had written negative reviews for this movie all over internet blogs,websites,forums...

Theater : Mini Rakki(Ambattur Rakki Complex)
Showtime : 6.30 pm
Theater Status : 30%
Theater Respone : Many were saying like a good entertainer in recent times. They were saying like the first half was far better than the slapstick ones in 2HHN

Story
Crime Branch CI Antony Simon(Mammootty) is a lazy officer. He is more interested to spent his time with his son Aadi(Dhananjay). Richa plays Antony's wife's character. The first half revolves around the attempt to arrest Bheem Bhai(Aashish Vidhyarthi) because of Antony's irresponsibility and a suspension following that leading to some minor family problems and how Antony gets back his job by saving cricketer Srikanth(Govind Padmasurya). In the second half, Antony arrests Bheem Bhai. Antony was forced to shoot a person because of Aadi & later Aadi's kidnap & how Antony rescues his son is the rest of the story.

Performances
Atlast Mammootty got a tailor-made character in which not the actor Mammootty, but the character Antony Simon makes us laugh through the situations in the story. Mammootty was excellent in the role. Dhananjay needs special mention because after some two decades I had seen a child actor on screen without heavy dialogues for his age and overacting. BijuMenon was good in his role. Richa was good but the problem is the dubbing artist in her first scenes. Later it was OK. Adv. Baburaj also needs a special mention. His character as a crime branch officer mainly interested in watching adult content in his mobile was played well throughout the movie. Especially his reactions after watching TV show of Antony was superb.Suraj did his part well. Also Richa's & Radhika's father played by Sreekumar did a good job. Though only limited scope for Govind Padmasurya as cricketer Srikanth, he did his part well. Many actors like Aashish Vidyarthi, Daniel Balaji, Radhika, Saikumar, Vijayaraghavan, Anoop Chandran, Vinayakan.... were wasted in the movie with not much developed characters.

Songs
Picturisation of all songs were good. Among songs, "Daddy My Daddy" & "Kadhayoraavarthanam" was good. "Samba Salsa" was not up to the mark, the final song too.

Ofcourse movie has got negatives too. The first half does not have much twists or incidents. But it was made entertaining by the director. Second half failed at the point Antony shoots the unknown person. There should be some valid twists for that. If climax was done with twists something like Daniel's team vs Aashish's team, then it would have been much more entertaining. The TV show scene was a good attempt but the length of the dialogues could have been trimmed. Also during the climax fight, I think the bgm was from the child's point of view showing atlast I saw my father as a real hero. But the way it is taken is like an action movie makes the music unsuitable. Balaji's close up shots in his eccentric mood repeated was boring. There were some technical flaws too in the climax.

Despite these negatives, what makes the movie entertaining is Aashiq Abu, who was able to make the audience engaged in the world of Antony & Aadi with his stylish new takings. I find Aashiq Abu as the very first debut in atleast last one decade who was able to bring a new movie watching experience. Dialogues were good. Camera Work was excellent, especially when Daniel Balaji walking from the sea with a wireless & gun on the shore was superb. Art direction was stylish & good. BGM Score during emotional scenes with slow music of "Daddy My Daddy" was good. BGM in Mammootty-Richa-Dhananjay combo scene was good. Also an impressive title cards animated by Rajeev Gopal

GO FOR IT if u people are looking for a new movie watching experience in Malayalam Cinema.

Don't know about the box office verdict of the movie as many good movies bombed at kerala box office before. If this one was made in Tamil, many will question like why can't we make such a different style movie in Malayalam. Muttathe mullakku appozhum ippozhum eppozhum manamilla ennu parayaruthennu abhyarthikkunnu.
